Hungary not to support possible sanctions against Rosatom, Gazprom
UN, Sep 26 (PRIME) -- Hungary will never agree with the possible inclusion of Russian nuclear power corporation Rosatom and gas giant Gazprom in the sanctions lists, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto told PRIME in an interview at U.N. General Assembly week on September 24.
“We will never agree to put Rosatom or Gazprom on the sanctions list. And we will never agree to impose sanctions on any enterprise that is important to us in terms of energy supplies,” he said.
The country will not support sanctions against Rosatom as it threatens construction of the Paks nuclear power plant, he said.
Hungary plans to accelerate the launch of construction of two power units within the framework of the Paks-2 project, the reactors should start operation by 2030, he said, adding the country is working on modifying a financial part of the Paks-2 contract to avoid problems caused by anti-Russian sanctions.
Hungary also called on the E.U. not to impose sanctions on the Paks-2 project. Any obstacles in this area are considered as a blow to the sovereignty, he added.
He also said that Hungary has sufficient gas reserves in its storages due to the supply from Russia, but a number of other European countries will not be able to get through the winter without Russian fuel.
